There are some things you must know before you upgrade your notebook memory, I will explain a few things that should be done before.

Step 1
Examine your notebook specification before you do a notebook memory upgrade.
Before you make out a memory upgrade to your notebook, at first you should know what’s memory that currently installed in your notebook, how many slots available and how much memory in your notebook right now. I usually read the manual book first to know the detail of my notebook, or you could go to the manufacturer’s website for more detail.

Step 2
How to check what’s inside your notebook before you proceed to do memory upgrade
There are several ways to know how much memory that currently installed. For windows based, we usually used old fashioned way to know it, just go to Start –> Control Panel –> System, it will show up the RAM that already installed, but it doesn’t describe you how many memory slots in your computer.

There’s a program known as Everest, it can tell you all about system specification in your notebook, from processor, motherboard, chipset, etc. But the most beneficial thing is this program will display how many RAM slots that available in your notebook. I remembered found this program from searching about how to add laptop & notebook memory in the internet, luckily I found what I need.

Step 3
Start to Buy your Notebook Memory and Upgrade it.
Once you know what you need, it’s time to buy a memory with capacity you need. For example, I currently use HP Mini 1013 with XP installed and it only equipped with 1 gigabytes of memory at first I bought it. I want to upgrade it to 2 gigabytes of memory. Once I knew it that the HP Mini has only 1 slot memory, then I can only directly upgrade the memory to 2 gigabytes in a single chip. What I did was to order the memory with capacity 2 gigabytes from online stores. How to disassemble for different brand the notebook can be done by searching it on the internet, but if you are not sure enough to upgrade your memory by yourself, you can bring your notebook computer directly to the nearest store. If you’re using Mac notebook and want to upgrade it with mac memory, I will describe it on my later post.
