Following the advance technologies that have been applied on airplanes and trains, cars will also have a wireless internet connectivity, Automobile manufacturer Subaru has revealed that its 2011 Outback will be equipped with an in-car 3G Wi-Fi connectivity, which capable of running on 2.5G and 3G cellular networks and handling up to 10 clients in a range of approximately 150 feet from the car.
This optional Wi-Fi connectivity is powered by Autonet Mobile and excluded from the 2011 outbackās base price ($22,995). That means if you’re interested to buy, you need to fork over $499 for the set up, and then $35 for activation charge, as well as $29 for monthly subscription. And unfortunately, you have only a choice of one-year subscription, but don’t worry, Subaru is so kind to give away the first three months for you at no cost.
In term of internet speeds, as touted by the manufacturer, with a 3G connection, the download speed is ranging from 400 up to 800 kbps, while upload speed is ranging from 128 up to 300 kbps. While running on a 2.5G service, the download speeds range from 120 to 200 kbps and 50 up to 100 kbps for upload speeds. This is better compared to the high speed internet providers in my area which only offer 200 up to 500 kbps download speeds. How about you? Have you compared this Wi-Fi speed with yours? if not yet, you can check the comparison out at http://www.broadbandexpert.com
This new innovative in-car Wi-Fi coverage should be very helpful for folks who would like to spend their leisure time surfing the web on the car while enjoying the panorama outdoors.
